Getting Invisalign? We’re Here to Answer Your Questions!

You don’t need to have metal brackets on your teeth in order to transform your smile. The Invisalign system can straighten your teeth both discretely and efficiently. And if you’re hearing about this system for the first time, we’re sure you have plenty of questions. Here are our answers to a few of them to get you started on the path to a better smile.

1. Will Invisalign work for me?

Invisalign can treat everything from gaps to overcrowding, from crossbite to overbite, and more. Therefore, this orthodontic system will likely be able to help give you the smile you’ve always wanted!

2. How does it work?

You will receive a new set of custom-made, virtually invisible aligners every couple of weeks—each intended to slowly move your teeth further into place until your bite is aligned. If you wear the aligners at least 20 hours per day, you will see results in no time. It’s as simple as that! You’ll just need to visit our offices every month or so to ensure your treatment is on track.

3. How long will it take?

This depends on your particular bite, as well as your adherence to the treatment plan. However, if you wear the aligners 20-22 hours per day, Invisalign is said to work in half the time of other treatments! Patients often see a total transformation in 10-24 months.

4. Are they uncomfortable to wear?

Good news! Invisalign is actually more comfortable than traditional braces. There’s no wire, no metal brackets, and, therefore, no cuts on your lips or cheeks. All in all, you’ll find that these are both comfortable and convenient.

5. How often do I need to clean my aligners?

You’ll want to clean your Invisalign trays at least every morning and evening when brushing your teeth. This will allow you to keep the bacteria growth on your aligners at bay and even protect your health.

6. What should I use to clean my aligners?

To clean your Invisalign trays, use a soft toothbrush and toothpaste to gently scrub the insides of the aligner. Do not use denture cleaner, soap, or mouthwash for this process, or it could make them appear duller and, therefore, less “invisible.”

7. How often do I need to soak my aligners?

Try to get into a habit of soaking your Invisalign every night. Simply drop Invisalign crystals into a small cup of lukewarm water, then let them soak for about 15 minutes. This will keep them hygienic, odor-free, and invisible.

8. Do I have to change my diet?

Unlike braces, Invisalign allows you to pretty much maintain your normal routine and diet. If you’d like to eat crunchy foods, just take out the aligners and place them in your retainer case until you’ve finished eating. Then, just brush and floss your teeth before putting them back in!

9. Can I eat with my aligners in?

It is best not to consume foods or beverages while wearing your Invisalign aligners. This could cause bacteria to buildup on your trays and make them appear duller. You can, however, drink water while wearing the aligners. Otherwise, make sure to take them out and put them in a case at snack or meal times.

10. Is Invisalign expensive?

Actually, the chances are high that Invisalign is covered by your dental insurance—meaning it won’t be very expensive at all! Contact your insurance provider to see how much of this orthodontic treatment they can cover and what costs you can expect to incur.
