Sleep Apnea Treatment
Sleep apnea is a serious condition in which sufferers completely stop breathing, sometimes hundreds of times in a single night. Unfortunately, as many as 10% of men and 6% of women over the age of 40 struggle with this sleep disorder. This can have devastating effects on a patients health—including increased risk of stroke, high blood pressure, heart failure, depression, and more—if left untreated. Thankfully, if you struggle with sleep apnea, we can help!
At Sunrise Dental Care, we have a number of appliances that will help to decrease snoring and make you feel more rested without the use of a CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) machine. These appliances are comfortable, easy-to-use, and will guarantee you the best night’s sleep you’ve had in years! The devices we have available to you are as follows:
TAP® 3 (Thornton Adjustable Positioner)
This custom-made sleep apnea appliance is the smallest and most comfortable option available. The device simply fits over your teeth—similar to a sports mouthguard—and slightly pushes your jaw forward, preventing the tongue and other soft tissues from impeding your airway. You can easily adjust the TAP 3’s lower jaw positioning to ensure a comfortable night’s sleep.
Oasys Oral/Nasal Airway System™
This comfortable, easily-adjustable appliance treats two of the primary causes of sleep disordered breathing: blockage in the throat and resistance in the nasal passage. To open your upper airway, the device shifts the jaw forward and keeps the base of your tongue toward the front of your mouth. The system also creates a larger nasal opening to eliminate blockages. By opening these airways, you will experience less resistance to your breathing and get a better night’s sleep.
Klearway is a great device for treating snoring and mild to moderate Obstructive Sleep Apnea. The appliance moves the lower jaw forward in small increments to decrease uncomfortable rapid jaw movements. Made from a pliable material—VariflexTM, heat-softening acrylic— this device can be heated for easier insertion, decreased soft tissue and tooth irritation, and maximum comfort.
Herbst Telescopic Appliance
This device is highly effective for the treatment of mild to moderate cases of sleep apnea and snoring. Made from acrylic and adjustable metal wiring, this appliance allows the wearer to move their mouth vertically and laterally without dislodging the appliance.
